Consultant Anaesthetist
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Anaesthetics at the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department and will participate in the provision of services to the population of North Cumbria. This is an opportunity to join an organisation in which clinicians are at the forefront of management.

Main duties of the job
For daytime work the successful applicant will be encouraged to work across a range of anaesthetic areas and develop areas of interest. There will be the expectation of working at both hospital sites to encourage greater experience.
The successful candidate will be experienced and highly motivated. They will be expected to participate fully within departmental activities, including teaching and audit. The job plan will remain flexible to allow for skills in all anaesthetic specialities to be maintained.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Valid registration with the General Medical Council
* Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent
* Completed higher specialist training in anaesthetics or evidence of equivalent competency approved by PMETB/GMC
* On the specialist register for the above, or be within six months of being admitted to the register at the time of interview
* Evidence of daytime and/or on‑call experience in ICU and maternity during the last two years, either at ST6‑7 or consultant level
* Other relevant medical and non‑medical training or degree
* Instructor status in either ATLS, APLS or ALS
* Evidence of recent and ongoing CPD in intensive care
Skills / Knowledge
* Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
* Knowledge of audit process and clinical governance
* Ability to organise workload efficiently
* A special interest to complement that of the existing post‑holders
* A commitment to, and experience of teaching
* Qualifications in teaching or instructing
* Experience of developing teaching resources
Experience
* High level of clinical experience and competence in a wide variety of fields of anaesthesia
* Experience and understanding of District General Hospital practice
Research and Teaching Experience
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
* Commitment to continuing medical education, appraisal and clinical governance
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals
* Experience of teaching to undergraduates and postgraduates
Personality and Disposition
* Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
* Enquiring, critical approach to work
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels
Personal Circumstances
* Able to participate in on‑call and emergency cover
* Ability to travel to fulfil the requirements of the post
* Able to be based within 30 minutes of the base hospital
