Working Hours
Full time 37.5 hours per week over 3–4 days or nights. Day shifts 07:30–19:30 or night shifts 19:00–07:30 covering 7 days and nights per week. Applicants should be willing to travel to accommodate cross‑site working if required.
Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of person‑centred care under the supervision of registered and non‑registered nursing staff.
* Assist patients with personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, meals).
* Help with non‑clinical duties in a ward or department.
* Ensure patient safety, dignity, and wellbeing at all times.
* Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
* Act as an advocate for patients within the department/ward/unit.
* Follow FHFT guidelines, policies, and procedures in maintaining safe working practices for patients and colleagues.
* Ensure that patients receive high quality communication and a good experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs, or principles.
Qualifications
* Evidence of general education, e.g. GCSEs or equivalent functional skills Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy.
* Willingness to work towards and complete the Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 apprenticeship.
* Completion of a care award NVQ (desirable).
* Vocational qualification at Level 2 or equivalent relevant experience (desirable).
* Knowledge of personal care and related procedures (desirable).
Experience
* Experience of working in a team, undertaking duties as requested (essential).
* Experience in a healthcare setting (desirable).
* Experience in theatres (desirable).
* Experience of dealing with the public (desirable).
Skills
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Physical ability to carry out activities required (e.g. manual handling loads, transferring patients, pushing beds).
* Good interpersonal and team‑working skills under sometimes difficult conditions.
* Manual dexterity to assist within a theatre environment (e.g. opening sterile supplies).
* Good basic hygiene skills (e.g., food handling, hand washing).
* Ability to care for people with compassion.
* Understanding of the requirements of patient confidentiality.
* Ability to learn new skills.
* Ability to follow clear instructions and accept constructive professional feedback.
