HV Commissioning Engineer 50k-70k package UK based travel Key Responsibilities Carry out commissioning and testing of high-voltage (HV) equipment and systems under the guidance of senior engineers or commissioning leads. Support pre-commissioning and commissioning phases for substations, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems. Perform HV testing activities such as: Primary and secondary injection testing of protection relays Contact resistance (Ductor) and insulation resistance testing AC dielectric withstand tests CT/VT ratio, polarity, and burden checks End-to-end scheme verification and functional testing Transformer ratio, winding resistance, and polarity tests Assist with system energisation and handover, ensuring all test results and documentation are accurate and complete. Contribute to FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities, identifying technical issues and supporting their resolution. Maintain up-to-date test records, commissioning schedules, and documentation in accordance with project requirements. Promote safe working practices on site and ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures. Work closely with design and protection engineers to review relay settings, logic configurations, and coordination requirements. Share technical knowledge and support less experienced team members where appropriate. Skills, Experience, and Qualifications HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent experience). Typically 4-6 years' experience in high-voltage testing and commissioning, ideally within Power Transmission, Distribution, or Utilities. Practical experience commissioning HV substations (up to 132kV or higher desirable). Good understanding of protection schemes, control systems, and primary plant (switchgear, transformers, CTs/VTs, circuit breakers). Hands-on experience with major OEM protection relays (e.g. Siemens, GE, Schneider, ABB, SEL). Capable of interpreting test data, identifying issues, and contributing to technical solutions. Experience supporting FAT, SAT, or system energisation activities. Strong attention to detail and competent technical reporting skills
