We are Environment Agency, seeking to protect and enhance the environment with water at the heart of our work. Clean and available water is essential for people, wildlife, and the economy. Water companies must invest to protect the environment from pollution; we need your knowledge to advise water companies on their plans and uphold protections for the water environment.
Overview
The Environment Agency has a broad remit to protect and improve the environment. We are looking for a candidate to help embed Bathing Waters work within our teams and support the Operational community of practice to fulfil its responsibilities, including assessing Water Company proposals to meet bathing water standards and developing innovative methods to achieve this.
Responsibilities
* Work alongside Water Quality Officers to embed Bathing Waters work within teams and support the Operational community of practice.
* Assess Water Company proposals to meet bathing water standards and develop innovative methods to achieve compliance.
* Collaborate with Environment Agency teams (e.g., Local Area Integrated Environmental Planning and National Water Quality Guidance Teams) and engage with water companies and external stakeholders to achieve Bathing Waters outcomes.
* Respond to incidents as part of an incident role; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. Training is available and may attract an additional payment.
Team and Location
We operate as a dispersed team; meetings occur as needed. The post is part of the OCS Water Quality team within Operations Catchment Services. Training and mentoring support will be provided, and there is flexibility on location with national meetings requiring travel.
Essential
* Knowledge of water quality planning, bathing water regulations, understanding of the water industry and price review processes; excellent communication and networking skills for working with Environment Agency colleagues and external stakeholders.
* Ability to analyse technical information.
* Experience presenting technical information to a wide audience.
* Organisational skills and ability to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work to relevant standards and timescales.
* Experience in an environmental discipline (e.g., Water companies, Environmental consultancies, regulatory roles, research and education, environmental charities).
Desirable
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Environmental science, Sustainability, Data science and analytics).
* Experience in water quality modelling.
