Cygnet Hospital Sherwood is our state-of-the-art PICU and Acute hospital for men, in Nottinghamshire. Fern Ward, the hospital's PICU for men, is now open and accepting referrals. Treetops Ward is one of our 16-bed male emergency acute inpatient services. The ward provides a safe and stabilising environment for individuals experiencing an acute episode of mental illness requiring emergency admission. The service is now open and accepting referrals.
Main duties of the job
At Cygnet Healthcare, we focus strongly on occupational therapy through support and guidance from Clinical Leads and Occupational Therapy Directors. We employ evidence-based practices within our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, where Occupational Therapists play a key role. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess and treat occupational dysfunction under supervision of a senior Occupational Therapist. An important aspect of this role is supervising others and supporting student education. The role offers opportunities for learning, development, and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOT's Career Development Framework.

Treetops Ward: Male Acute Mental Health service
Treetops Ward is a 16-bed male emergency acute inpatient service providing a safe environment for individuals experiencing an acute mental health episode requiring emergency admission.
The ethos emphasizes assessing and treating individuals in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge efficiently. We focus on stabilization, supporting individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills, and prepare for independent living in the community.
Our team works closely with service users, families, and referrers to ensure a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery-oriented and supported by a comprehensive multidisciplinary team, which contributes to shorter stays.

Caseload: Up to 16 patients
Responsible to: Service Manager for line management supervision & Occupational Therapist (Band 6 or above) for professional supervision.
Hours: 40 hours per week (5 days)
Occupational Therapy Directorate
Supported by our occupational therapy directors, we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Our team provides mutual support, opportunities for involvement in service development, and participation in specialist interest groups.
Each service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist who develops evidence-based practice and occupational therapy pathways.
We involve our occupational therapists in service model development, leveraging the expertise of our clinical leads.
Occupational Therapy Preceptorship & Induction
We offer a 12-month preceptorship for newly qualified Occupational Therapists to support skill consolidation. We also provide a sensory integration preceptorship for those interested in sensory integration. All new staff complete an induction covering service line Occupational Therapy processes and in-house orientation.
