🔍 Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist - Paediatrics & Strabismus (Scotland)
Location: East of Scotland
Duration: 12‑month locum
Rate: ÂŁ90-ÂŁ110 per hour
On‑call: 1 in 9
We're seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery to join a high‑performing eye department in the East of Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality paediatric ophthalmology clinics and surgical sessions
* Perform paediatric strabismus surgery independently
* Provide ROP screening (preferred but not essential)
* Support ARC emergency clinics as required
* Contribute to departmental governance, admin, and SPA time
* Participate in a 1:9 on‑call rota
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience in paediatric specialist ophthalmology
* Competence in paediatric strabismus surgery
* NHS experience strongly preferred
* Ability to work autonomously within a busy clinical environment

Essential
* MBBS or equivalent medical degree
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
* A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check - or a willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process
* UK Right to Work
* Strong communication and teamworking skills
