Specialist Occupational Therapist


Post Details

AfC Band 6 (pro rata) plus a High Secure Environmental Allowance of £1,750.47 per annum (pro rata) and a High Secure Clinical Responsibility Allowance of £4,201.29 per annum (pro rata).

Hours – Various hours including full time and part time available*

Contract Duration – Permanent


Role

State Hospital – Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist within the Allied Health Professions team in a high‑secure forensic environment. You will work as part of a highly skilled multi‑disciplinary team where your expertise will be valued and influence lives.


Responsibilities

* Support individuals with complex mental health needs, learning disabilities and challenging behaviours.
* Provide life‑changing interventions focused on daily living, productivity and meaningful occupation to help manage risk and promote recovery.
* Work autonomously with a defined caseload, using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence‑based practice.
* Lead on service development, clinical audits, research, and innovation within the OT service.
* Provide clinical leadership to junior OTs, support staff and students to help shape the next generation of practitioners.

Your work will directly influence patient progress, safety, independence and long‑term outcomes.


Experience and Qualifications

* A qualified and HCPC‑registered Occupational Therapist.
* Experienced in mental health or learning disabilities.
* Skilled in using a variety of assessments, including MOHO‑based tools.
* Confident in managing complex clinical situations and risk.
* Motivated, reflective, and passionate about person‑centred care.
* A natural leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Reduced Working Week

Starting from 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours, and part‑time staff will get a pro‑rata reduction in their working hours without losing any earnings.
