Residential Childcare Practitioner – Greenleaf House, Newmilns, East Ayrshire
Salary: From £32,397 to £34,640 OTE plus overtime
We specialise in solo placements for young people in care up to the age of 21 and adopt a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to care. This role involves joining a team to provide high standards of care and support to vulnerable young people in a small residential setting.
The role involves completing 14-hour shifts followed by a 10-hour sleepover. The young people in our homes are with us 24/7 and deserve a safe, caring environment where they can grow and achieve positive outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate
* Experience in a residential childrens home
* SVQ 3 and HNC in social care or equivalent (or willing to work towards)
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
* Ability to work shifts, including weekends, sleepovers, and long hours
* Full UK manual driving licence and confident driver
* Understanding of behaviours of children and young people; skilled in intervention strategies
* Awareness of relevant legislation
Training in crisis and physical intervention is required or willing to complete.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide care and support to children and young people in accordance with policies and procedures
* Contribute to assessment processes and delivery of support programmes
* Provide positive support and participate in planning and review meetings
* Participate in a key person system
* Ensure quality recording of information according to policies and regulations
* Work within a shift system including sleepovers
* Conduct health and safety and other safety/security checks
* Participate in ongoing training and personal development
* Implement de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies as needed
* Promote young peoples participation, structure, boundaries and routine
* Comply with the code of conduct as required by the SSSC
* Be aware of safeguarding and child protection issues and report accordingly
Contribute to maintaining a safe, hygienic and clean environment. The nature of residential work is varied and flexible; other duties may be assigned as required. All staff must complete induction and ongoing training and adhere to Greenleaf policies and procedures.
Minimum Requirements
* Experience in a residential childrens home; relevant qualification in the field
* Eligibility for SSSC registration and PVG membership for work with children and adults
* Full UK manual driving licence; eligible for car insurance for company cars
* Ability to work shifts including evenings, sleepovers and weekends
* Willingness to work towards SVQ 3 and HNC in social care or equivalent
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills; understanding of safeguarding and child protection
