The role in detail We're looking for a Credit Manager ideally skilled in both credit and data disciplines to join our Corporate & Business (C&B) Credit team within Risk Management. Our C&B Credit team are responsible for 2nd line credit assessment / underwriting, and co-management of credit risk for customers in financial difficulties. Our focus includes balancing robust credit risk management with a strong focus on positive customer outcomes, along with contributing to the development, implementation and overview of Credit Policy and Credit parameters for both our core local Northern Ireland market, and our activities in the rest of the UK. As a team we apply expert credit analysis while supporting the implementation of robotics and AI decisioning processes. As Credit Manager, initially you will report directly to the Head of Credit supporting improvements in the sourcing and shaping of portfolio, sectoral and credit quality data from both local and group data analytics teams. You'll assist in further process improvements, being an active member of continuous improvement working group established with 1st line C&B Banking. You'll collaborate with local and Group automation and robotics teams, and co-lead / facilitate the adoption of new processes and risk-based analysis techniques which will further drive efficiencies in the credit assessment, reviewing and reporting environments. Further evolving semi-automated frameworks for the effective stress testing of larger exposures across various sectors and for specific portfolio segments in various scenarios will be a key aspect of the role. To support ongoing further business growth, you will exercise a delegated lending authority (DLA) in line with Group Credit Policy, commercial strategy, risk appetite, standard operating procedures and asset quality requirements. You will assess credit applications for business, financial and structural risks, and including consideration of ESG matters and Geopolitical, Security and Energy (GSE) risks, working within the framework of Consumer Duty obligations and in line with service level standards to support customer experience and satisfaction outcomes. The role also involves analysing sustainability-led applications to support customers in their transition strategies, developing expert credit skills covering all C&B customers across a range of sectors, specialist knowledge in key segments, and engaging commercially with 1st line colleagues to provide value-adding input and challenge thereby contributing to growth objectives while managing risk. Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, identifying key portfolio issues, improvement opportunities, along with scoping of and delivering on training needs of both Credit and 1st line colleagues. You will be expected from time to time to deputise for the Senior Manager C&B Credit Assessment and / or co-present cases with Head of C&B Credit UK in forums with Group Credit Copenhagen. The role may also require capabilities in the management of customers experiencing financial difficulty within the C&B Special Credits unit. What skills and qualifications will you need? You'll be a financial professional or an experienced Credit Manager within a Corporate Banking/Finance environment who is comfortable interacting, influencing and negotiating with Senior Corporate & Business Relationship Managers. Including presenting analysis and underpinning your recommendations in Credit decision forum / risk committee settings. You'll be familiar with terminology relating to Corporate & Business banking portfolios, product types and sectoral mix aspects such that data delivery requirements may be appropriately specified. You'll have skills or experience and/or aptitude to upskill in multiple aspects of automation and you'll possess general economic awareness knowledge that will support the specification of appropriate stress testing drivers to simulate various scenarios. You'll have experience, either in a Banking or Finance environment, of dealing with customers and businesses based in NI and the rest of the UK, from a variety of sectors, which may include but not limited to trading businesses with UK and international interests, housing associations, operators in the renewables sector, commercial real estate operators etc. You will have proven ability to accept accountability for making logical and well-balanced decisions whilst working under pressure, within time constraints and with complex data. Credit decision forum / risk committee settings You'll also: Be able to demonstrate strong customer and business focus to support our leading Customer Satisfaction position. Commerciality will be a key trait. Possess extensive general product knowledge of core lending facilities, and ancillary lines. Have over 3 years' experience in a related role ideally with a business degree or equivalent and/or relevant post-graduate accountancy or Institute of Bankers qualifications. As a Credit Manager you are deemed to be a "material risk taker" under the UK Financial Conduct Authority's Senior Managers Framework / Certification Regime, and as such, clear the required background checks.
