Overview
Data Centre Technician responsible for delivering service support within the site team at the client’s data centre(s) in Bath, UK.
Responsibilities
* To deliver service support within site team at client’s data centre/s.
* To carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance, ad-hoc and reactive tasks, escorting and controlling sub-contractors to all M&E services.
* To take a pro-active role in identifying any issues which need to be escalated to the M&E manager.
* To escalate any site emergencies following agreed procedures.
* May include small installation works, repairs to building fabric, and handyman duties.
* Resolve and complete day-to-day work orders to meet customer satisfaction targets and within SLA timeframes.
* Maintain up-to-date log of work completed and outstanding items through the Mainstream SI-7 CMMS system.
* Qualify and act as an appointed Authorised Person (AP) within 6 months from onboarding.
* Carry out isolations and reinstatement of Electrical, Gas, Fire Alarms and Sprinkler systems when required and where authorised.
* Issue permits for access, maintenance, service and project activities on location as required.
* Ensure that all contractors and CBRE staff comply with safety and security requirements.
* Participate in the critical services training programme and communicate effectively with the client and management team at all times.
* Collaborate with other technicians to share expertise and resolve operational problems.
* Provide holiday, training and sickness cover for other shift team members.
* Track and complete Critical Services Planned Preventative Maintenance and maintain environmental monitoring reporting.
* Provide condition assessments of plant and equipment; log and action out-of-line situations with incident reports and remedial actions.
* Update reports, documentation and infrastructure mapping as required; ensure compliance with client SLA, Data Centre DOU, and CBRE/Client processes.
* Ensure the quality of 3rd party contractor work and follow through on report recommendations.
* Assist in preparing quotations for extra technical works and source materials, labour and components to carry out work cost-effectively.
* Maintain effective communication with the client and management team (e.g., incident reports, handover documents).
Personal Experience / Qualifications / Skills
* Trained in a technical discipline with an apprenticeship or equivalent; City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 (or BS7671:2008 IEE Wiring Regulations) or equivalent.
* Experience in a critical maintenance environment.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision and with strong customer service and communication skills.
* Flexible, team-oriented, willing to learn and develop skills; good understanding of permit-to-work systems and H&S requirements.
* Ability to read technical drawings; understanding of power provisioning, PDUs and environmental monitoring.
* Good computer skills; ability to use databases and generate reports (training provided).
* Commitment to excellent customer service; able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
* Physical fitness to carry tools and components up to 20 kg; ability to access vertical and roof areas; willing to work shifts including weekends and bank holidays.
Accountabilities
* Accountable to Contract Manager and Site Supervisor.
* No direct staff reporting; no direct budgetary responsibility.
* Responsible for maintaining stocks of spares and consumables and secure storage and controlled issue.
Experience & Education
* Good basic education with strong written and spoken English and basic mathematics.
* Formal training in mechanical and electrical services maintenance; City & Guilds 236 parts 1 & 2 (or later) and 17th Edition or equivalent; up-to-date skills on building management systems, health and safety training (IOSH or equivalent).
* Experience maintaining mission-critical facilities (UPS, BMS, emergency generators, electrical systems) with a thorough understanding of health and safety obligations.
* HV/AP appointment ability and capability to create switching plans.
