Reservoir Supervising Engineer – Yorkshire Water
Responsible for safeguarding Yorkshire’s water supply for over 5.2 million people, ensuring the safety, integrity and compliance of reservoirs under the Reservoirs Act 1975, and supporting the 4‑year progression plan to become a fully qualified Reservoir Supervising Engineer.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the safe operation and statutory compliance of reservoirs under the Reservoirs Act 1975.
* Supervise operation and maintenance of reservoirs and produce annual performance statements.
* Take legal responsibility for reservoir safety at all times.
* Support the development and implementation of structured training leading to full competency within four years.
* Provide specialist advice on reservoir safety and integrity to the team.
* Apply risk‑management principles to protect and improve reservoir assets.
* Plan and carry out asset‑management activities, including inspections, maintenance prioritisation and major works.
* Develop and maintain integrated asset policies covering design, operation, maintenance and investment decisions.
* Ensure compliance with regulations, business plans and regulatory targets in all asset‑related policies.
* Contribute to capital investment initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
* Degree‑level qualification in Civil Engineering.
* Strong technical and engineering expertise, including design, operational and maintenance knowledge.
* In‑depth understanding of engineering specifications, design guidance and site process safety.
* Appointment by DEFRA as a member of the Supervising Engineers Panel (essential).
* Ability to work in confined spaces and meet strict medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing and spirometry tests).
* Knowledge of end‑to‑end delivery processes, including project management plans, risk management, quality techniques and cost models.
* Excellent communication skills to build strong relationships, influence stakeholders and support change initiatives.
* Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office and Outlook.
