Job Summary
Northampton General Hospital UHN is looking for an experienced Production Chef to work within the Central Production Kitchen. The role involves preparing and cooking patient meals to high standards, ensuring food safety, hygiene and HACCP requirements are met, and assisting in menu development and waste reduction.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and cook patient meals in compliance with the Trust’s Food Safety and Hygiene Procedures.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety across all production areas.
* Document daily food production, waste, and storage to support stock control.
* Assist the Production Manager with menu planning and recipe development.
* Promote and practice safe food handling, correct use of PPE, and compliant lifting techniques.
* Report non‑conformance of food safety, hygiene or other operational standards.
* Lead by example, providing guidance and maintaining professional conduct.
* Support storage checks, waste minimisation and clean‑as‑you‑go practices.
* Respond to reasonable additional requests from the Production Manager or Catering Services Manager.

Education & Training
* NVQ Level 2 (Essential)
* NVQ Level 3 (Desirable)
Food Safety Knowledge
* HACCP, COSHH and the Food Safety Act (Essential)
* General Food Safety and Hygiene practice (Essential)
Essential Experience & Skills
* Delivered a similar service in a kitchen environment with high pressure.
* Strong culinary skills and genuine passion for cooking.
* Recognition of catering craft skills.
* Ability to keep records and maintain documentation.
* Leadership and direction of staff.
* Understanding of Health & Safety, Risk Management and COSHH.
Desirable Experience & Skills
* Bakery experience.
* Patisserie and confectionery experience.
* Nutritional awareness.
Employment Details
* Contract: Permanent
* Working Pattern: Full‑time, 5 out of 7 days per week including weekends.
* Pay: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum.
