Description Lifelong Learning Library Adviser - fixed term until 31/03/2026 Corstorphine Library Salary: £26,337 - £28,835 (pro-rata for part-time) Hours: 30.38 per week, 52 weeks This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. It is desirable that you have experience of working in a library setting. (Desirable) Experience of planning, organising and delivering events and activities for children and young people is desirable. (Desirable) Knowledge, Skills and Understanding: You should have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people including children and young people. You should have the ability to manage conflicting priorities and challenging behaviour situations. You must have excellent team working skills and be able to work collaboratively with colleagues. You must have excellent communication skills. A knowledge of library services is desirable. (Desirable) A strong interest in literature (children’s or adult’s) is desirable. (Desirable) Qualifications and Training: There are no specific qualifications required for this post, but you are expected to have excellent literacy, numeracy and IT skills. You are also expected to be accurate and show attention to detail. An interest or qualification in history or local studies will be an advantage for the postholder in the Edinburgh, Scottish and Reference Team. (Desirable) Job Specific Requirements: You should have the ability to promote literacy and a love of reading to a wide range of customers including children and young people. You should be prepared to work in a busy, and sometimes pressurised environment. You should be prepared to work evenings and weekends. You must be able to work with a minimum of supervision, and you will be required to open and secure premises and make them ready for public use.
