Senior CFD Engineer – Reinvent the Future of Energy
Are you a highly skilled CFD Engineer looking for an opportunity to develop cutting-edge combustion and emissions reduction solutions? RJM International is seeking an experienced Senior CFD Engineer to lead advanced CFD analysis, develop innovative combustion system designs, and contribute to the future of low-carbon energy solutions.
In this role, you will lead CFD analysis and solution design, collaborating closely with Process, Mechanical, and Business Development teams, playing a key part in optimising plant performance, reducing emissions, and developing new combustion technologies. You'll also have opportunities to engage in R&D initiatives, support commissioning activities, and work directly with clients to develop tailored solutions.
Advanced CFD Analysis & Engineering
Lead CFD simulations for combustion and emissions control in power generation projects.
Perform detailed reacting and non-reacting fluid flow analysis using ANSYS Fluent.
Conduct process calculations and engineering assessments to validate CFD results.
Design and optimise ultra-low NOx burners firing coal, biomass, oil, gas, and hydrogen.
Project Collaboration & Client Interaction
Work closely with process and mechanical engineers to develop combustion solutions.
Engage with clients and project teams to present findings, solutions, and recommendations.
Assist in preparing quotations, project resource planning, and progress reporting.
Act as a mentor to junior engineers, providing training and technical guidance.
Support site-based diagnostic testing, commissioning, and design verification.
We value talent and expertise, but we also recognize potential. MEng or PhD in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering, ideally with a combustion focus.
~7+ years in industrial CFD, ideally within power generation, emissions control, or combustion R&D.
~ Strong proficiency in ANSYS Fluent for combustion analysis.
~ Proficiency in 3D model and mesh generation (SpaceClaim, Design modeller, Fluent meshing) and optimization for large-scale models.
~ Knowledge of turbulence models, chemical kinetics, radiation heat transfer, and multiphase flows.
~ Ability to validate and optimize CFD models using real-world data.
~ Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters in Linux & Windows environments.
~ Proven ability to manage time and resource to meet deadlines in a commercial environment.
~ Strong verbal and written English language skills for preparing technical presentations and reports.
Prior experience CFD modelling a wide variety of boiler types and firing system designs.
Programming skills (Python, C++, FORTRAN, or VBA) for CFD automation.
Understanding of plant thermal performance and root cause analysis techniques.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to create geometric models.
Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
Full UK driving license and additional language skills are a plus.
