Based across 4 sites, Bangor University has a range of indoor and outdoor sports provision and is in the process of expanding the sporting offer to students.
The University’s'unique geographical positionenables students to experience some of the best mountain and water based sporting facilities in the UK alongside the more traditional team and individual sports within the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) sport framework. The facilities also serve the local community and University staff.
Purpose of the Job
* To provide supervision of University Sports Facilities.
* To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all users of University facilities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Supervising and assisting in the set-up and take down of sports activities and equipment at a range of University venues – including Normal Site, Canolfan Brailsford, Treborth and others as directed.
* To make regular checks of the premises and users, reporting on defects and breakages of the building and equipment to the Mmanagement.
* Ensure all users follow the regulations associated with the sports facilities, and all safety procedures are adhered to.
* Focusing on delivering excellent customer care and a quality service to the customers, you mustthe successful candidatewill have a responsible attitude, excellent communication and decision making skills.
* To contribute to the Sports departments programme of coaching and instruction of activities.
* Liaising regularly with Canolfan Brailsford Reception and other University Sport staff.
* Maintain and prepare facilities and equipment for activities to take place to the highest standards..
* Give advice and assistance to users if requested.
* Deal with accidents and emergencies.
* Open and close the sports facilities, with special responsibility for securing the building.
* Such other duties as are appropriate, and may from time to time, be requested by the Manager or their nominated staff.

* The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, preferably including English and Maths.
* Sports and Leisure related qualifications (BTEC, C&G or similar).
* Coaching or Fitness Instruction qualifications.
* European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
* Knowledge of Health & Safety.
* 4 day First Aid at work certificate Work Related.
Experience / Knowledge
* Previous experience of working in a sports and / or leisure environment in a public facing role.
* Experience as a participant, coach or similar in a range of sports and activities.
* Experience of working in an FE or HE sport environment.
* Experience of working on a shift pattern.
* Experience of working in a bilingual (Welsh and English) and multi-cultural environment.
Skills / Abilities
* Evidence of good customer care skills with the ability to empathise and work with customers of all age groups and ability.
* Effective communication, interpersonal and interactive skills, including ability to develop effective relationships with users of the facilities and provide advice and guidance as necessary.
* Able to work both within a team and also to work efficiently on own initiative.
* Ability to manage the day to day supervision and preparation of sports facilities.
* A driving licence - in order to open and close buildings across multiple sites.
* Ability to inspire, motivate and encourage people through fitness.
* Well organised, self-motivated, committed to continuous professionalism.
* Able to demonstrate drive and enthusiasm for sport and physical activity.
* Be willing, helpful and polite.
* The flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by the shift pattern.
* Self-motivated and be able to demonstrate your commitment to high standards of service delivery.
* The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this post. If applicants are not able to speak/write in Welsh at present, there are many opportunities to learn if the successful candidate wishes to do so.
