Be competent in managing common ENT presentations
Optimise the medical management of this group of patients, inagreement with the patient and discharge them back to their registered GP
Refer to secondary care and / or other services as appropriate
Complete comprehensive, contemporaneous notes
Be a source of clinical expertise to less experienced staff, andwork in partnership within a multi-disciplinary team as appropriate
Participate in clinical meetings, Harrow Health clinicalgovernance agenda, training and education
Be responsible for any pathology or radiology results that areordered by themselves and support team members in interpreting the same asneeded.
Main duties of the job
To support the ENT team to deliver a high standard of evidence based care to those attending the service
Lead Multidisciplinary Team meetings as requested
To work with the team to maintain a high quality, clinically effective and cost effective primary care service
To provide a comprehensive service to the patients attending the ENT clinic including clinical examination, investigations as needed, diagnosis and management, and referral as appropriate
To ensure patients have consented to and are fully involved in the implementation of their procedure / treatment plans
Interpret results where requested
Adhere to NHS England and NWL Primary careprescribing formulary
To adapt styles of communication appropriately to promote empowerment, self-management and health education for patients. Interpreters can be sought as needed.
Update the patients records using EMIS patient administration system.
To identify actual or potential clinical risks within scope of practice and take appropriate action using, when required, the appropriate reporting structure
To be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions and practices within a framework that adheres to the GMCs requirements and Harrow Health policies and procedures

Job Summary:
The post holder will work with a team of ENT Doctors, Nurses,Audiologists and Health Care Assistants providing predominately face to faceconsultations, in one of our community based clinics. The clinics providepre-booked appointments for patients referred tothe service. A range of ENT conditions will be seen in theclinics, including but not limited to, Otitis Externa, Otalgia, BPPV, Nasalobstruction, Tympanic Membrane Perforation, Epistaxis, Nasal Endoscopy.

Main Responsibilities :

If a prescription is needed, this mustbe in line with the NHS England and NWL Primary care prescribing formulary

Using the EMIS system the consultationmust be recorded in the patients records. Where the patient is registered witha Harrow GP the clinician will have access to their GP records. Proformas areset on the EMIS system and must be completed by the clinician. These will beshared with all the referring clinicians and the Trust, if appropriate
Liaise with other team members as appropriate

Service deliveryresponsibilities:
To ensure thatpatient records and documentation are maintained in line with HHCIC policiesand use of the electronic patient records system. This includes:
Documenting full, accurate and contemporaneous records ofassessments, investigations, procedures, treatments and aftercare.
Encouraging colleagues to maintain good and complete records.
Working closely with the reception team/ administrator, ensuring all records pertinent to patients are filed asappropriate
Work within local policies, protocolsand guidelines.
Ensure Safeguarding Adults referral isconsidered in cases of suspected abuse andpolicies and procedures are followed when concerns are raised
To participate in audits as requested,and use the results, current research, and government guidelines to makerecommendations for changes to service delivery and clinical practice, sharingthese findings as appropriate.
To collect data, and provide serviceinformation to the Service Manager as required.
To ensure that the Team leads /Operational Manager / Head of Nursingand Clinical Governance Lead are kept informed on service issues and potentialrisks.
To work with the Operational Manager indelivering and promoting the needs of the service
To work with the Clinical Lead,Operational Manager, Head of Nursing and Clinical Governance Lead to meet theClinical Governance needs of the services, including investigation of incidents(including serious incidents) and complaints, where required.
To remain updated in the use allequipment used in the service and to report any technical problems or issueswith that equipment.
To participate in team meetings todiscuss day to day operational issues as required.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Professional Qualification
2. Full registration with the General Medical Council
3. GMC Specialist Register for Consultants
Desirable
4. Relevant Higher Degree PhD, MD or other clinical qualifications
Experience

5. Experience of working independently, with a minimum of 10 years experience post qualification
6. Diploma or Masters in ENT qualification OR Certificate of Completion of Training in ENT
7. Relevant experience in specialist or community ENT services
8. Able to perform Nasoendoscopy and Pharyngoscopy
9. Microsuction competency as needed
10. Up to date knowledge of DOH, NICE and local guidelines for the management of ENT presentations to the service, including pharmacological measures
11. Competency in interpreting and acting on pathology, histology and radiology results
12. Teaching experience
13. Mentorship and appraisal experience
14. Infection Prevention and Control Procedures
15. Knowledge of use of IT / EMIS system
