Occupational Therapist

Are you a newly qualified or experienced Occupational Therapist wanting a change in career direction with potential for promotion? Redditch and Bromsgrove Neighbourhood Teams are growing our OT resource recognising how essential it is to support patient discharges and unnecessary hospital admissions. A neighbourhood Team Community OT role is fast‑paced and responsive to urgent referrals and works closely with other nursing and therapy roles. Making a patient home safer and guiding the promotion of independence is where the OT really adds value to the patient experience.

This is a full‑time post, but we would consider applicants looking for part time.

Good opportunities exist for further training and development within the role. You will be joining an enthusiastic, supportive, and friendly team where you will receive support and development through in‑service training, regular appraisals, a personal development plan and clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

A day shift is 7.5hrs between the hours of 7:30am and 18:30pm, Monday to Sunday including bank holidays. Working weekends will attract an enhancement payment.

Your typical day will include coordinating your caseload, triaging referrals, allocating workload and prioritising urgent response assessments alongside colleagues.

The role will involve you:

* Undertaking occupational therapy assessments for a designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the client in areas of self‑maintenance, productivity and leisure.
* Assessing clients in relation to their equipment and specialist equipment needs, including minor adaptations such as rails and half‑steps.
* Maintaining contemporaneous clinical notes to professional minimum standards of the College of Occupational Therapy and in accordance with Trust guidelines.

* Use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and the quality of their work and the service they provide to patients.
* Assess clients with physical disabilities in the community and plan and implement treatment interventions under the supervision of a more senior Occupational Therapist.
* Liaise with other health and social care professionals, families/carers, statutory and voluntary organisations to enable people to contribute to life/return to their homes.
* Contribute to the supervision of assistant staff and students.
* Work within the services quality standards and observe the policies and procedures of the Trust.
* Assist in any other duties that may be required to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of the service.


Person Specification


Experience

* Application of the Occupational Therapy process.
* Use of functional assessment and activity analysis.
* Equipment and adaptations experience as a student or band 5 therapist.
* Some experience of working in a related health or social care environment.


Skills and Abilities

* A positive attitude and able to act on feedback.
* Able to communicate effectively in English in both verbal and written formats.
* IT skills and competent in using a computer.
* Ability to demonstrate sound clinical knowledge.
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
* Ability to work alone with individuals and groups.
* Ability to demonstrate sound assessment /discharge skills with individual cases.


Qualifications

* Diploma/ degree in Occupational Therapy.
* Health Professionals Council registration.
* I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.


Knowledge

* Some knowledge of current best practice in Community Occupational Therapy.
* Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice.
* Basic knowledge of the principles of clinical governance.


Additional Criteria

* Able to meet the travel requirements of the role.
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
