Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Post‑16) - East London

We are seeking an experienced and confident Speech and Language Therapist to support a Local Authority in East London by delivering specialist communication assessments for post‑16 learners undergoing the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) process. This role involves providing high‑quality, outcome-focused advice for EHCPs and collaborating closely with colleges, families, and multidisciplinary professionals to inform robust decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out statutory communication and language assessments for young people aged 16+ as part of EHCNAs.
Produce clear, specific, and measurable EHCP recommendations within statutory timeframes.
Work in partnership with colleges, families, LA professionals, SEND teams, and BCIT to ensure coordinated support.
Contribute to annual reviews and follow-up discussions where required.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to all safeguarding procedures and professional standards.
Requirements
BSc/MSc in Speech and Language Therapy.
HCPC registration (essential).
Minimum 2 years' experience working as an SLT, ideally including work with adolescents or young adults with SEND.
Strong background in communication assessment and EHCP‑related report writing.
Confident supporting young people with a range of needs, including language disorders, autism, learning disabilities, and complex communication needs.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Desirable Skills / Experience
RCSLT membership.
Experience working in further education, specialist colleges, or alternative provision.
Knowledge of AAC, speech sound disorders, social communication needs, or developmental language disorder.
Experience delivering training or communication workshops for staff or families.
Additional Information
Flexible consultancy role with autonomy over scheduling.
Travel to local colleges and community settings may be required.
