Job Overview
The Director of Internal and Operations Communications is a dual report in the Office of Chief Operating Officer and the Office of Strategic Communications at Georgetown University, and manages university-wide internal communications and provides leadership and strategic direction for the Office of the COO. The COO's portfolio includes Auxiliary Business Services, IT and Strategic Operations (including University information Services), Office of Public Safety, Office of the CFO, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Investment Office, Planning and Facilities Management, the Office of the Staff Ombuds, Office of Sustainability and the Office of Commercial Business.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
The Director conducts comprehensive reviews of major initiatives and develops and implements strategic communication plans that support the mission, strategic goals and objectives of the office.
The Director distills complex information for audiences including but not limited to internal decision makers, the Board of Directors, the university community and the public.
The Director also works alongside content creators in the Office of Strategic Communications to produce and coordinate content creation, and tracks and evaluates content performance.
The Director develops and edits seven internal communication newsletters with audiences ranging from students to parents, faculty, and staff. The Director reviews analytics to assess success of internal communication efforts. The Director works to ensure that non-academic websites are up-to-date and dynamic.
The Director manages two staff members – the manager of internal communications and the manager of communications for planning and facilities management.
Work Interactions
The Director is a dual report to the Senior Associate Vice President for Operations and the Associate Vice President for Communications. This position will sit within the Office of Strategic Communications.
The Director works closely with the Senior Associate Vice President for Operations, who manages the Office of the COO. The Director works regularly with colleagues in the departments that report to the EVP/COO and collaborates with communications staff throughout the enterprise and serves as a liaison to the Office of Strategic Communications.
As a Member of the Office of Strategic Communications, the Director will work closely with the Associate Vice President of Strategic Communications and content creators (editorial writers, videographer, graphic designers) to fully leverage Communications resources to highlight university initiatives.
The Director has two direct reports, the Internal Communications Manager and the Planning & Facilities Management Communications Manager.
Requirements And Qualifications
Required Qualifications
A minimum of five years project management, communications, web development, executive writing or consulting experience – preferably within higher education or a business and/or a fiscal environment.
A willingness and ability to prepare executive communications, including PowerPoint presentations and speeches/talking points.
Experience building out robust communications plans with change management; significant experience leading organizational change/projects in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders; ability to articulate vision, opportunities, and key information to executive leaders, the Board, the University community and the public.
Ability to organize/lead projects requiring integration of efforts across colleagues, university entities and external vendors/partners.
Ability to edit communications and web content to ensure accuracy and clarity.
High level of initiative and motivation; excellent oral and written communication skills, strong in PowerPoint, Excel, website maintenance and data manipulation.
Undergraduate degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an academic/higher education environment is a plus but not required.

Pay Range
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$54, $100,493.33
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
