ELECTRONICS ENGINEER (PART-TIME)
Join Our Growing Team | Birmingham, UK (On-Site)
About Impli
Impli is pioneering continuous hormone monitoring technology that will transform women's health and beyond. Impli’s platform represents the world's first implantable biosensor for real-time hormone tracking, starting with IVF applications and expanding into PCOS, menopause, cardiovascular, and oncology markets. We've secured £1.4M NIHR i4i funding and are backed by strategic partnerships. We're a team of 10 passionate innovators approaching first-in-human trials.
The Role
We're seeking a hands-on Electronics Engineer to develop hardware and firmware for our implantable biosensor platform. You'll design low-noise analogue front-ends for biochemical signal acquisition, develop embedded firmware for sensor control and data processing, and integrate electronics with our biosensor arrays. This part-time role offers the opportunity to shape critical technologies that enable breakthrough medical diagnostics. Start immediately at our Birmingham facility (PHTA, University of Birmingham).
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop low-noise analogue circuits for electrochemical signal acquisition
• Develop embedded firmware for sensor control, signal processing, and wireless communication
• Integrate hardware with biosensor arrays and validate performance in vitro and in vivo
• Optimise power management for long-term implantable operation
• Collaborate with biosensor scientists to advance platform miniaturisation
What We're Looking For
Cultural fit is paramount. You're a self-starter who thrives in startup environments, comfortable with ambiguity, fast deadlines, and uncharted territory. You take ownership, solve problems creatively, and stay motivated when the path isn't obvious.
Essential:
• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• Hands-on experience with low-signal analogue electronics and noise reduction techniques
• Proven firmware development skills (C/C++, embedded systems, microcontrollers)
• Experience working with biochemical/biosensor signals (electrochemical, potentiometric...)
• Ability to design PCBs and prototype electronics hardware
Highly Valued: 3+ years in medical device electronics, power management for battery-operated systems, signal processing algorithms, ISO 13485/IEC 60601 knowledge
Significant Bonus: Previous implantable device experience | NFC/BLE wireless communication protocols | Electrochemical sensor signal acquisition and processing
Why Join Impli
• Work on category-defining technology with massive clinical impact potential
• Collaborate with world-class partners (Imperial College, NHS, Bayer, leading MedTech advisors)
• Shape platform expansion across multiple high-value markets beyond our IVF beachhead
• Part-time flexibility with an early-stage opportunity and meaningful equity participation
