Responsibilities
* Provide care and services appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
* Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the occupational therapy service.
* Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, and the appearance of therapy areas.
* Be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and the team concept.
* Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide therapy services in accordance with professional standards.
* Relate information concerning a resident’s condition and collaborate with residents, family members, visitors, and staff as appropriate.
* Possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
* Be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing therapy services.
* Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language to fulfill job duties.
* Maintain the general health requirements and participate in medical and physical examinations as required by facility policies.
Qualifications
* Must possess, as a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
* Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years experience in a therapist capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related medical facility.
* Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative therapy practices.
* Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in this state.
* Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
* Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of residents.
* Must be a supportive team member and contribute to team work and team concept.
* Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
* Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
* Must be knowledgeable of occupational therapy procedures and possess leadership and supervisory ability.
* Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret occupational therapy programs and services.
* Must maintain therapy supplies and ensure a clean, functional therapy area.
* Must be willing to work harmoniously with residents of varying maturity levels and demonstrate patience and tact.
* Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing therapy services.
* Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition and not pose a direct threat to others.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
* Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday; speak and write English clearly.
* Must cope with mental, emotional, and physical stress of the position.
* Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
* Must function independently and work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, and outside agencies.
* Must meet general health requirements including a medical and physical examination.
* Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile individuals.
* Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
* Must be willing to assist in evacuations during emergencies and may involve exposure to blood/body fluids.
