Job Summary:
The EHS & Sustainability Officer will oversee the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs at the Livingston site, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies, and standards. The role involves developing and maintaining site procedures, supporting EHS strategies, promoting a culture of excellence, and providing technical leadership on EHS matters.
Essential Functions:
* Develop and maintain site EHS and sustainability management systems, ensuring legal compliance and operational safety.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to EHS and sustainability.
* Align site activities with group strategies on EHS and sustainability.
* Manage risk assessments and control measures to reduce hazards and waste.
* Ensure compliance through audits, investigations, and adherence to policies.
* Coordinate waste management in partnership with relevant teams.
* Identify and implement projects to reduce waste and environmental impact.
* Maintain current knowledge of regulations and update legal registers accordingly.
* Maintain records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
* Review new chemicals and materials, support COSHH processes, and monitor industrial hygiene.
* Develop and train incident management and first aid teams.
* Oversee emergency response plans.
* Communicate effectively with management on safety and environmental issues.
* Build relationships with regulators and keep management informed of developments.
Support site sustainability efforts to minimize environmental footprint.
Other Duties:
* Assist in establishing and implementing environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
* Participate in or lead non-EHS projects, including continuous improvement initiatives.
Supervision:
Reports to the site lead for EHS, currently the site Technical Director.
Qualifications Required:
* Minimum 2 years' experience in safety and/or environmental/engineering roles, with knowledge of chemical, pharmaceutical, or environmental processes.
* Bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety, chemical engineering, or related discipline; other degrees or significant relevant experience may suffice.
* Experience with pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing preferred.
* Professional certifications (e.g., IOSH, CSP, CIH, CHMM, CHCM) are advantageous.
* An advanced degree in EHS management is a plus.
