Maintenance Technician – New SEND Secondary School
Location: Rockshaw Road, Chaldon, Surrey
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £13.22 – £13.83 per hour (£27,497.60 – £28,766.40 per annum, DOE)
Hours: 40 hours per week (hours to be agreed with School Business Manager)
About the Role
School Staffing Solutions are recruiting two Maintenance Technicians on behalf of an independent provider of education and care for children with special needs.
Our client is opening a brand-new SEND Secondary School in September 2025 in Surrey for young people aged 11–16 with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing needs, typically associated with Autism.
You will play a key role in ensuring the school buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting the safety, well-being and learning environment of pupils and staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out day-to-day maintenance, repairs and inspections of buildings, grounds and equipment.
* Manage and respond to maintenance requests using online ticketing systems.
* Support with planned maintenance, record findings, and take action where required.
* Maintain safe storage and use of tools, materials and chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.
* Ensure vehicle maintenance, mileage auditing and safe transport procedures.
* Assist with the movement of furniture, equipment and deliveries as directed.
* Promote energy efficiency and sustainable working practices.
* Build strong working relationships with staff, pupils and stakeholders.
* Be flexible to work occasional unsociable hours when needed.
About You
Essential:
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in site or building maintenance.
* Full UK Driving Licence and own transport (school not accessible by public transport).
* Understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.
* Experience in basic repairs, decorating, carpentry, plumbing or similar trades.
* Confident using IT systems for audits and maintenance records.
* Mechanical knowledge or basic machine maintenance experience.
Desirable:
* D1 Driving Licence, First Aid, or H&S qualifications (e.g. Working at Height, COSHH, Manual Handling).
* Additional trade or technical skill (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.).
* Awareness of environmental factors (wildlife, nesting seasons, etc.).
