PMLD Learning Support Assistant – Specialist Secondary Provision Carmarthenshire Flexible working – Monday to Friday Competitive Weekly Pay (PAYE) Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated PMLD Learning Support Assistant to work within a well-established specialist secondary provision in Carmarthen that supports pupils aged 3–19 with complex additional learning needs. This setting supports learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties, autism, and complex medical needs. The school provides a highly personalised, nurturing environment with a strong focus on communication, independence, life skills, and wellbeing. About the Role You will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs to access meaningful learning experiences tailored to their individual Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Responsibilities include: Providing dedicated 1:1 and small group support for learners with PMLD. Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene. Supporting mobility using specialist equipment such as hoists and wheelchairs. Engaging pupils in sensory-based and multi-sensory learning activities. Supporting communication through PECS, Makaton, objects of reference, and assistive technology. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals. Promoting independence, dignity, and emotional wellbeing. This is a hands-on, physically active role requiring patience, empathy, resilience and genuine compassion. Essential Requirements Experience working with children or young people with SEN, PMLD, complex needs, or within a care setting. A resilient, calm, and compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable learners. Willingness and confidence to provide personal care. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one. Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) in Wales (or willingness to register prior to placement).
