Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to become the Registered Manager of an outstanding short breaks service for children with disabilities in one of Nottinghamshire County Council’s children’s homes. The Big House is a home based in the vibrant and busy village in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, the home of the legendary Robin Hood. The home provides short breaks for children aged up to 18 years and has expertise in working with children with severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, challenging behaviours, medical and sensory needs. At The Big House we believe that children have the capacity to develop an understanding of, and build on their social skills, friendships, practical abilities, and communication styles, through a range of positive interactions with staff and others. The experienced staff team are trained and skilled in working with children with a variety of disabilities who can often demonstrate highly complex and challenging behaviours.
To achieve and maintain its Outstanding rating by Ofsted the following principles are applied and embedded across the service:
* Empowerment: a shift in the balance of power so that children with intellectual disabilities can make their own decisions and take control of their own lives.
* Choice: Having access to a wide range of options, deciding for themselves which ones suits them best and having their choices respected.
* Dignity: Recognising and valuing children with intellectual disabilities as equal with the same rights as everybody else.
* Individuality: Responding to and working with each child as an individual with his or her own unique personality, perspective, and strengths.
* Privacy: Ensuring that every child is treated always in a manner which safeguards their dignity and does not expose them to any risk or harm or cause them personal or emotional discomfort.
We are looking for an inspirational, experienced leader who has the right skills, values, and knowledge to develop and lead a staff team to work with the most vulnerable children, ensuring their physical, emotional, cultural and health care needs are met.
Are you motivated, ambitious, caring and committed to working within a regulated, residential service for children with disabilities in line with the Service Plan and Quality Care Standards and Children’s Homes regulations 2015. If so, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.
You must have 5 years’ experience of working with children and young people in a managerial capacity within a residential setting and a minimum of 2 years working with children with disabilities.
