About BASIC
The British American Security Information Council (BASIC) is an independent, non‑partisan think tank working to advance global security and nuclear disarmament. Founded in 1987, BASIC brings together policymakers, academics, and civil society leaders to build trust and understanding across political and national divides.
We believe that open dialogue, evidence‑based policy, and creative diplomacy are essential to reducing nuclear risks and fostering a safer world. BASIC’s work spans research, advocacy, and engagement through its programmes such as the Emerging Voices Network (EVN), Transatlantic Security, and Gender, Youth and Security initiatives.
The Role
BASIC is seeking to appoint a Legal Trustee to join its Board. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring the organisation meets its legal and regulatory obligations as a registered charity, and that its governance practices align with Charity Commission guidance and best practice.
The Legal Trustee will contribute to the strategic oversight of BASIC’s work, offering sound legal judgment, scrutiny, and advice to the Board and Executive team. The role is ideal for a qualified lawyer with an interest in international affairs, peacebuilding, or the charitable sector.
