Job Description
3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Barnet Council is seeking a Youth Offending Team Officer (Grade I – Non-Qualified) to join the Youth Offending Service within Children’s Services on a temporary basis.
• The role supports the delivery of statutory youth justice services, working with children and young people who are involved in, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system.
• The post requires strong partnership working, engagement with young people and families, and contribution to reducing reoffending and promoting positive outcomes.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Support the delivery of youth offending and early intervention services in line with Youth Justice principles and legislation.
• Work directly with children and young people, undertaking assessments, interventions, and follow-up work as directed.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, assessments, and plans for internal use and court-related processes.
• Engage constructively with parents, carers, victims, and partner agencies including police, schools, health, and social care.
• Support risk management and safeguarding processes, escalating concerns appropriately.
• Maintain accurate and timely case records and documentation in line with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
• Attend meetings, panels, and reviews as required to support service delivery.
• Work flexibly to meet service demands, including community-based work where required.
• Promote equality, inclusion, and positive engagement with young people at all times.

Skills/Experience:
• Experience working with children and young people, ideally within youth justice, youth work, social care, or a related setting.
• Understanding of youth offending, safeguarding, and risk management principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively with young people, families, and professionals.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage tasks within agreed timescales.
• Experience of record keeping, report writing, or administrative support in a care or justice environment.
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and follow professional guidance.
• Awareness of confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding responsibilities.

Additional Information:
• The closing date: 07/01/2026.
• This is a hybrid role, with 2 days remote working and 3 days office-based at Colindale.
• Location: 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale, London (NW9 4EW).
• Contract: Temporary – 12 weeks.
• Hours: 36 hours per week.
• Enhanced DBS is required.
