Job Description:
Our client, who plays a key role in supporting competition within the non-household retail water market, is looking for a Policy Officer to join their team on a 6-month FTC. As the Policy Officer, you will help devise, manage, and deliver government and stakeholder relations activities with a particular focus on the impact of policy and the changing political environment. It’s a varied and hands-on position where you’ll provide internal stakeholders with policy insight, strategic advice, and high-quality written materials. Key responsibilities for a Policy Officer:
1. Track political and regulatory developments providing timely analysis on their potential impact.
2. Prepare tailored briefing materials and meeting packs to support the SLT.
3. Monitor parliamentary questions and press activity to keep stakeholders informed.
4. Carry out horizon scanning across policy and regulatory areas.
5. Provide secretariat support for a strategic industry panel.
6. Produce clear and engaging policy briefings, external communications, and stakeholder content.
7. Write high-quality reports and analysis documents to support decision-making.
8. Attend stakeholder meetings and industry events, supporting effective engagement.
9. Build and maintain strong internal relationships, including regular contact with SLT.
Skills and experience required for a Policy Officer:
1. Familiarity with political and regulatory processes, with experience in the utilities sector.
2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
3. Experience in producing detailed, accurate policy/regulatory content.
4. Background in policy, public affairs, government relations, or a similar field.
5. Able to manage your own workload and juggle multiple deadlines independently.
6. Confident communicator, comfortable presenting and contributing in meetings.
7. A team player who’s happy to step into different areas when needed.
8. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
