ASAP – 6 months+ position in the Project Controls department located in Warrington/Cumbria. Working 3 days per week on site and 2 days per week remote. Compensation: £44.50 per hour plus statutory holiday pay and pension contributions.
Job Purpose
A Reporting Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining reporting systems that transform raw data into actionable insights to support decision‑making.
Key Accountabilities – Job Specific
- Design and develop reporting systems, databases and data processing procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Analyze complex data sets and generate meaningful reports and visualisations that support business strategies and decision‑making processes.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts and other stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
- Optimize existing reporting solutions for performance and usability, ensuring reports are user‑friendly and accessible.
- Provide ongoing support for reporting systems, troubleshoot issues and implement enhancements as necessary.
Key Accountabilities – Generic
- Interface and interact with management; no direct supervision required.
- Where applicable, train and develop assigned staff on relevant skills to achieve section objectives.
- Implement approved policies, processes, systems and quality standards to support work programs in line with international standards.
- Contribute to the achievement of approved performance objectives within the Performance framework.
- Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve quality and efficiency of operational processes where applicable.
- Identify and support improvements in internal processes against best practices to enhance efficiency in line with ISO standards.
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards.
- Prepare progress reports for the company and client.
- Maintain daily internal liaison with management and all engineering, operations and project disciplines.
- Maintain regular external contact with clients regarding service agreements and technical planning and scheduling issues.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Minimum academic qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field.
- Minimum five years post‑graduate experience, including at least three years in a PMO organization focused on reporting management activities in the Energy Sector (Oil and Gas, Renewals and Nuclear). Must have held a similar position for at least three years.
- Security clearance is required; if not in possession, the employer will assist in obtaining clearance.
- UK passport required.
- Good interpersonal, people‑management, communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical, planning, organisation and reporting skills.
- Advanced Power BI skills and sound knowledge of other reporting software and tools.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to produce manpower histograms, Gantt charts, S‑curves with minimum guidance and supervision.
- Professional certifications such as PMP or similar are an advantage but not mandatory.
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or other data analysis tools and languages.
- Experience with reporting tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Tableau, Power BI or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical abilities for interpreting complex data and identifying actionable insights.
- Ability to identify and implement novel approaches to improve reporting processes and efficiency.
- Good knowledge of core Project Controls disciplines, baseline development and maintenance on a programme.
- Excellent report writing skills.
