Description Costain are working with Thames Water on a variety of water and wastewater projects and have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Procurement and Supply Chain Manager to join our growing AMP8 delivery team, working predominantly across the Thames Valley and Thames South regions. The Procurement and Supply Chain Management function is responsible for the interface with those third-party organisations who support our business whether that be for procurement of goods and services or the relationship management that underpins any such activities. They support project delivery teams across the sectors to ensure the strategic direction is identified and delivered. The Senior Procurement and Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for creating, leading, and implementing robust Procurement and Supply Chain strategies for major programmes of work This pivotal role involves close collaboration with Senior key Stakeholders, end clients, the Sector Heads of Procurement and the wider Procurement & Supply Chain Team. The key requirement for this role is to ensure that the sector’s Procurement and Supply Chain needs are met and where possible exceeded as well as ensuring alignment to group Procurement and Supply Chain strategies. Responsibilities Job Responsibility Developing a strategic approach for Procurement and Supply Chain Management across major programmes and ensuring that robust strategies are developed and implemented Ensure that responsible Procurement is delivered across allocated projects developing and supporting project delivery teams whilst remaining aligned to group P&SC targets and objectives Ensure a robust and structured supply chain exists and is correctly deployed in support of both work-winning and successfully delivering projects / frameworks Support implemented category management approach within the sector to leverage spend and performance whilst staying aligned to group category management strategies Support the drive towards ESG, including SME development, social value creation, zero carbon solutions, promoting safety. Ensure alignment with Head of Sustainable Procurement and Relationship Management on approach Promote collaboration between the business and the supply chain to unlock value through innovation and best practice where appropriate using the principles of ISO44001 Ensure strong governance is followed and adhered to, ensuring the business is not exposed to unnecessary risk and that effective performance management of the supply chain is undertaken Work closely with the Central Procurement function to ensure compatibility between activities of respective functions Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiating contracts and ensuring compliance with terms and conditions Develop relationships with client’s Supply Chain and Procurement teams, participating in their initiatives to assist them in achieving their goals Ensure data is produced and used to allow effective decision making Continuously improve procurement and supply chain processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Essential Significant experience of working in a similar level role Previous experience working in the water sector A clear and visible enthusiasm for driving improvement in best practice Ability to demonstrate a level of emotional intelligence, capable of engaging with a wide-ranging stakeholder group Extensive knowledge of supply chain management and procurement developing strategies to drive leverage and performance Experience of collaborative working and implementing innovation Adaptable and agile approach capable of taking accountability for change initiatives Strong negotiation and contract management skills Commitment to sustainable procurement practices and knowledge of key principles Ability to communicate vision and strategic direction Highly commercial, with a proven ability to use Procurement skills to unlock value for the business Strong numerical, financial and data analysis skills Excellent Microsoft Office suite proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) Desirable Experience in developing and delivering category management Knowledge of Infrastructure Industry Procurement and Supply Chain Operations Experience of working within a matrix organisation, with abilities to influence at all levels Knowledge of Costain Procurement and Supply Chain Management systems and requirements Working knowledge of procurement-based software, e.g.eProcurement software e.g. SourceDogg, eJAGGAER, Arriba sourcing or similar Experience in negotiation heavily modified NEC3/NEC4 subcontracts to promote demonstrative favourable commercial outcomes for the business. Previous knowledge of Frameworks projects and associated procurement practices Qualifications Essential Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field Member Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply qualified or a similar Professional certification in procurement (e.g. CPSM) Desirable MBA or Master’s degree in a related procurement field MCIM or ILM Leadership degree LI-JA1
