The Legal Services Department provides legal advice and representation to Humberside Police & South Yorkshire Police. This exciting role will be in our operational policing team, responsible for:
* Providing legal advice to the Chief Constable, police officers, and staff on operational policing matters and protective orders, including attending meetings such as GOLD groups.
* Managing a varied caseload, mainly civil preventative orders (e.g., Stalking Protection Orders, Sexual Offence Act Orders, Forced Marriage Protection Orders, etc.)
* Advocating in Magistrates Court, County Court, Family Court, Licensing Committees, and potentially Crown Court.
* Providing advice and representation in police disclosure cases within Family law contexts.
* Keeping up-to-date with legislation and case law to advise on their impact on the force.
* Training officers and staff on operational legal matters as needed.
* Building positive relationships with internal teams, external agencies, and law firms to ensure timely legal advice.
Skills and experience:
* Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate.
* Expertise in public protection, criminal, or civil law, with strong advocacy skills.
* Knowledge of ECHR, Magistrates Court Practice, and rights of audience (minimum solicitors rights).
* Significant post-qualification experience in relevant legal areas.
* Ability to manage a diverse caseload and provide clear, legally sound advice under pressure.
* Excellent communication skills for dealing with officers, staff, and external partners.

Eligibility:
