Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and dynamic Specialist Neurological Occupational Therapist, with a passion for neurological and/or spinal rehabilitation and clinical excellence in developing a new service at Hobbs Rehabilitation, Chedington.
We are excited to develop this brand new service in the grounds of the Chedington Estate in Dorset, offering accessible, luxury independent living with state-of-the-art facilities and a range of rehabilitation opportunities for adults with conditions including brain injury, spinal cord injury, poly-trauma, amputation and other neurological conditions. The role involves working with an MDT to provide bespoke intensive rehabilitation and to contribute to developing this new service.
Main duties of the job
The role will include assessment and treatment for a caseload of neurological patients with physical and cognitive impairments. It will be within a very supportive MDT and involve participating in family meetings, MDTs and discharge planning.
Responsibilities
* Assessing patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments using a range of formal and informal assessments.
* Practice safely within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession.
* Formulate patient-centred goals in conjunction with MDT.
* Provide one-to-one intervention to patients with acquired physical and cognitive impairments, using evidence-informed practice and treatment options.
* Evaluate patient progress using published outcome measures.
* Liaise regularly with the Hobbs MDT and wider care team.
* Organise and plan the MDT therapy caseload at Chedington Neuro rehab unit in conjunction with other clinical team members; readjust plans as needed.
* Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
* Write high-quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports for inpatients.
* Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* Recognised degree qualification in a relevant neurological rehab clinical specialism (e.g., Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Neuropsychology).
Desirable
* Evidence of further specialist postgraduate study within the field of neurological rehab.
Experience
* Essential – Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team; experience with patients with a range of neurological impairments.
* Desirable – Experience supervising and line-managing staff; leadership experience; experience managing complex situations and conflict; experience with spinal clients; experience with amputee clients.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
* Excellent teamwork skills.
* Good IT skills.
* Clinical skills in neurological rehabilitation and knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches for acquired neurological conditions including spinal injuries.
* Commitment to developing self and others through training, supervision and mentoring.
* Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing service needs.
Desirable
* Enthusiasm for neuro-technology.
