About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Gas Engineer to join our Response team in Caerphilly, delivering high-quality gas servicing and repairs across our clients’ housing stock. Your role will be vital in ensuring that all gas appliances and systems are safe, compliant, and fit for continued use.
You’ll carry out a range of domestic gas works including boiler diagnostics, repairs and servicing. Accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety are essential, as your work directly impacts the wellbeing of residents, staff, and the wider public. You’ll be expected to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining high standards of customer service and compliance at all times.
There will be an expectation of being included in the out of hours rota, this will be once every 20 days. The OOH shift will start around 4.30pm and you will be on call until 8am the following morning. There is a salary uplift on OOH, and any works completed after the hours of 4am will not be required to work the next day. If finishing before 3am, you will be expected to come in for the afternoon of the following day. Further details to be discussed at interview.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out servicing and repairs of domestic gas appliances including boilers.
2. Diagnose faults and complete remedial works efficiently and safely
3. Perform landlord gas safety inspections and issue certificates (CP12s) On average you will complete 4 a day.
4. Ensure all work complies with current gas regulations and internal procedures
5. Respond to emergency call-outs and urgent repairs when required
6. Record all work completed using handheld devices or job management systems
7. Liaise with tenants, housing officers, and internal teams to ensure clear communication
8. Maintain van stock levels and order materials as needed – When low on stock, you will email the supplier and the stock will be ready to collect the next day.
9. Identify and report any safeguarding concerns or property hazards
10. Work collaboratively with other trades to complete multi-skill jobs – Sometimes in contact with MSO. Most of the time will be working alone, unless working on DNVO sites (Do Not Visit Alone)
11. Participate in toolbox talks, training sessions, and safety briefings
12. Ensure PPE is worn and health & safety procedures are followed at all times
13. Support apprentices or junior engineers when required
Key Criteria
14. Qualified to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance
15. Hold valid ACS certification (e.g. CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1)
16. Experience in domestic boiler servicing, fault diagnosis, and installation
17. Good understanding of electrical safe isolation and basic wiring principles
18. Knowledge of current gas safety legislation and compliance standards
19. Experience working in social housing or local authority environments (preferred)
20. Excellent communication skills with a customer-focused approach
21. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
22. Comfortable using handheld devices or digital job management systems
23. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices
24. Flexible and willing to travel across properties and attend out-of-hours callouts
25. Full UK driving licence
