Overview
Portico is seeking an experienced professional to join our team as a Crane and Maintenance Engineer. This role will be part of both the crane maintenance and workshop material handling equipment (MHE) teams, ensuring the availability, longevity, and compliance of all Port cranes and Material Handling Equipment (MHE). The position requires participation in an on-call rota with fellow engineers, providing support to the Crane and MHE teams outside of standard working hours when necessary. The role will primarily focus on crane maintenance, with the flexibility to support the MHE (Material Handling Equipment) team when needed.
Responsibilities
* Conduct annual and periodic inspections of cranes and MHE, identifying required repairs or parts.
* Collaborate with workshop supervisors or managers to ensure timely procurement and repairs.
* Maintain accurate compliance and service/repair records.
* Assist with electrical and mechanical maintenance as needed.
* Participate in an on-call rota and provide support outside normal working hours when necessary.
Qualifications
* Engineering Qualification: A recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or both (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC) or equivalent.
* Crane and MHE Maintenance: Proven experience and training in the maintenance and servicing of cranes and material handling equipment (MHE).
* Health & Safety Compliance: Familiarity with statutory regulations and compliance standards related to crane and MHE operations, including LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations).
* Inspection Certification: Relevant inspection certifications for cranes and MHE (e.g., IPAF, CPCS, or similar).
* Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Experience: Hands-on experience with both electrical and mechanical maintenance, ideally in a port environment or industrial setting.
* On-Call/Shift Work Flexibility: Willingness to participate in an on-call rota and work outside regular hours when required.
* Additional qualifications or training related to maintenance, safety, or crane operation are advantageous.
* Current valid UK driving license.
* Willingness to learn and adapt: undergo new skills training as well as machine appropriate training from manufacturers.
* Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of crane and material handling equipment (MHE) maintenance, including both mechanical and electrical systems.
* Inspection & Compliance: Ability to conduct thorough inspections and identify issues.
* Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently, minimising downtime and ensuring safe operations.
* Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in recording service, repair, and inspection data, ensuring documentation is up-to-date and compliant.
* Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and management across multiple teams.
* Health & Safety Awareness: In-depth understanding of health and safety practices, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
* Adaptability: Willingness to be flexible, including participation in on-call duties, shift work, and responding to urgent maintenance requests.
* Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication when reporting faults, requesting parts, and coordinating with other teams or contractors.
* Business-Focused: Proactive approach to ensuring all equipment is operational to meet production or operational needs, minimising disruption to business activities.
