Position: Short Breaks Shift Leader
Zero hours Position
Salary: £14/hour
The Short Breaks Shift Leader will be instrumental in the support of planning and delivery of recreational activity sessions during weekends and outside term time as part of our short breaks offer.
Working alongside the Short Breaks Manager they will help to plan, implement, review and evaluate physical activity and recreation programmes that support our young people emotionally, physically and developmentally to help maximise their potential.
· To lead shortbreaks shifts during weekends and holidays in partnership via a rota system with the Short Breaks Manager.
· To help maximise the potential capabilities of young people from the local area with SEN and complex learning difficulties.
· To support the Short Breaks Manager in planning and implementing shortbreaks sessions for weekends and half terms including the liaising with parents, social workers, and transport.
· To support the Short Breaks Manager in reviewing and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the physical activity and recreation plans put in place.
· Create and maintain a safe environment by ensure safeguarding is always a priority.
· Co-leading a team of Short Breaks Support Workers to deliver the planned programmes, ensuring all equipment is resourced in line within shortbreaks budgetary constraints.
Skills Required:
· Have a clear understanding of their responsibility to make the safeguarding of our young people a priority.
· The ability to build a rapport and develop relationships with the young people.
· The ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
· Strong written, listening and verbal communication skills.
· The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a committed team.
· Strong attention to detail e.g in sharing information.
· Basic ICT skills.
· Enthusiasm, sensitivity and patience and able to motivate young people to maximise their potential.
· Patience, as progress may be slow - involving repetitive exercises to aid young people who have problems memorising, processing and retaining information.
· Creativity and problem-solving skills.
· Organisational skills and flexibility.
· Qualities such as empathy, assertiveness, tact, a sense of humour and physical and mental stamina.
· Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Work Experience & Knowledge:
· Knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education
· Experience of working with people/children with severe learning difficulties and or challenging behaviours.
· Ability to work during the summer holidays and evenings(essential)
Qualifications:
· Qualification (or working towards) in the education or childcare field.
· Academic or vocational qualification in additional areas e.g. Music, Art, Forest School.
