Your Mission:
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing cutting-edge systems for the next generation of Royal Navy submarines. Your role will be both challenging and rewarding, as you contribute to projects that matter.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Designing multiple platform systems, sub-systems, and equipment.
* Conducting functional design activities, modeling, and analysis.
* Producing design documentation, Verification & Validation evidence, and safety justifications.
* Collaborating with suppliers to support specification qualification and procurement of components.
* Engaging with stakeholders across a cross-functional project team.
* Driving engineering governance through peer and design reviews.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* Proven capability in system lifecycle delivery—from concept to commissioning.
* Demonstrated leadership through technical direction, mentoring, or project ownership.
* A degree-level qualification or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).
* A strong mechanical engineering background in Rotator Machinery, Components, or Fluid Dynamics.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of platform-level constraints like noise, shock, or survivability.
* Experience integrating purification systems with submarine life-support, HVAC, and emergency protocols.
* Design experience in gas scrubbing, filtration, and environmental control systems in complex, safety-critical environments.

The Mechanical Engineering Team:
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer specializing in Air Purification Systems, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of submarine Air Purification and Atmosphere Monitoring systems. This is your chance to lead technical initiatives and engage with suppliers while steering design architecture across a major submarine program. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates.
