We are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join one of our client's specialist secondary schools, providing vital support to pupils who require a nurturing, consistent and structured environment to thrive.
About the Role
This is a full-time position within a dedicated SEMH setting. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and behaviour specialists to support pupils who present with a range of emotional and behavioural needs. Your role will be key in helping pupils regulate their behaviour, re-engage with learning, and develop positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group behaviour support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Assist in the implementation of behaviour management strategies and individual support plans.
- Help pupils develop self-regulation, coping strategies, and positive social skills.
- Support teachers in maintaining a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Build trusting, professional relationships with students, acting as a positive role model.
- De-escalate challenging situations using training, guidance, and a trauma-informed approach.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH or challenging behaviour (school, youth work, care, PRU or similar backgrounds beneficial).
- A calm, consistent and empathetic approach.
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
- Resilience and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to reach their potential.
