A Snapshot of Your Day
In this dynamic role you will pull together and lead a cross functional group that will create and implement a commodity strategy that will drive positive change in the supply chain. The successful candidate will be a great communicator who is able to influence others outside of direct reporting lines, winning people over to share in the vision for the commodity. You will know understand your internal partners and engage with them regularly to ensure their requirements are being met, adapting the commodity strategy to respond to the changing market environment. You will determine the strategic direction for the supply chain including which suppliers you will grow and develop strong partnerships with, constantly being on top of the latest technology developments and new supplier capabilities as they develop. You will work alongside cross functional colleagues to implement that strategy through a commodity circle making sure all facets of the supply chain are being openly communicated. You will maintain key performance indicators to show the progress of your commodity and you will ensure your key partners are kept informed.
How You’ll Make an Impact
1. Responsible for developing and implementing the commodity strategy, forming a commodity circle with support from other functions to ensure proactive engagement from the business
2. Closely work with the business management to ensure their business needs are captured in the strategy (cost, quality, lead time, capacity etc) and facilitate regular feedback to the business management through key performance indicators
3. Ensure all sourcing requirements from the business have suitable strategic supply options, including dual/multiple source options and regional and low cost country options
4. Work closely with Engineering to facilitate changes that enable the best solutions in the commodity strategy including the incorporation of latest technologies ( material changes, forging methods)
5. Manage the commercial relationship with the key suppliers in the commodity by conducting face to face visits and facilitating quarterly business reviews looking at all aspects of the trading relationship (contract status, quality performance, delivery performance etc)
6. Ensure contractual coverage is in place through negotiating framework agreements and price agreements with the key suppliers
What You Bring
7. A degree in an appropriate commercial ( Supply Chain Management) or technical ( Engineering, Metallurgy) field would be preferred but time served experience in similar roles will be considered in lieu of a degree
8. At least 5 years experience in a direct supplier facing capacity in strategic purchasing roles
9. Strong negotiation skills and a good understanding of contract terms & conditions with experience of leading high value negotiations
10. Excellent communication skills and an ability to influence others outside of direct reporting lines
11. Working knowledge of Forging or other metal forming processes will be a distinct advantage
12. Experience on-boarding new suppliers in a tightly governed industry ((Aerospace, Nuclear, Oil & Gas etc)
13. MCIPS or membership of other chartered bodies (IOM3, IMechE, IET etc) would be welcome
