We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Garment Designer to join our Older Girls design team on a fixed term contract for 12 months. As an Assistant Garment Designer, you will support senior designers in all aspects of the design process, including trend research, sketching (Cads), sample management, and technical documentation. You will gain valuable hands-on experience working with a variety of product categories for girls aged 3-14 years, helping to bring fresh ideas to life and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality designs.
Your Role
* Design Support: Assist senior designers in the creation and development of the older girls range, including research, concept development, and design execution.
* Trend Research: Support trend analysis and competitor research to help inform design decisions, keeping the team up-to-date with the latest market trends.
* Sketching & Tech Packs: Assist in creating technical sketches and design packs, supporting the design team with garment specifications, fabric, and trim selections.
* Sample Development: Help manage the sample development process, including organizing and tracking sample production, ensuring all designs align with the brief and meet quality standards.
* Collaboration: Work closely with the design, buying, and product development teams to ensure designs meet the brief and commercial needs, contributing to team discussions and brainstorming sessions.
* Administrative Support: Assist with various administrative tasks such as maintaining design files, updating critical path documents, flow boards, colour management and preparing presentations.
* Learning & Development: Take an active role in learning the full design process, gaining exposure to all stages of design from concept through to final product, and receiving regular feedback to help you grow professionally.

* Education: A degree or diploma in Fashion Design or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
* Experience: already working within the fashion industry either for another retailer or a supplier.
* Passion for Fashion: A strong interest in children’s fashion, particularly girlswear, with an eagerness to stay updated on trends and market insights.
* Creative Skills: Design skills with the ability to contribute to the creative process. Experience with sketching (Digital sketching CAD) and an understanding of garment construction and textiles.
* Technical Skills: Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), with a willingness to learn and improve your technical skills.
* Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* Team Player: A collaborative mindset, able to work well with colleagues across various teams, and open to learning from more experienced designers.
* Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and work well within a team.
