Position Overview
The Managing Director of StepStone Real Estate in London will significantly contribute to the growth of our investment activities, including client coverage, portfolio management, and business development. The role involves sourcing, underwriting, and asset managing real estate investments across our funds and accounts, serving major sovereigns, pension funds, insurance companies, and family offices globally. The primary focus will be managing over EUR 1.1bn of core plus AUM in Europe, with opportunities to expand this strategic area.
Essential Job Functions:
* Proven leadership in the European real estate market, with at least twelve years of experience in private equity or private debt investing.
* Ability to manage portfolios and relationships with large institutional investors.
* Track record in originating, executing, managing, and exiting real estate investments across risk and capital structures, especially in lower risk (core plus) sectors. Experience in operational real estate and alternative sectors is a plus.
* Conducting comprehensive due diligence on properties, markets, managers, legal, and structural aspects.
* Preparing and presenting detailed investment committee memoranda highlighting findings, recommendations, risks, and merits.
* Leading negotiations with counterparties and stakeholders, managing external advisors.
* Pan-European experience with multilingual and multicultural skills preferred.
* Demonstrated success in capital raising and client engagement.
Education and/or Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* BA/BS in Business, Finance, Economics, or Accounting; MBA or similar is preferred.
* Strong communication skills and client relationship experience.
* Value-oriented investment approach focused on real estate fundamentals.
* Sound investment judgment with understanding of risk and reward.
* Excellent business writing skills, including preparing investment memos.
* Strong financial modeling skills, especially in capital structures and cash flow analysis.
