Job Description
The Learning Solutions function for the Metropolitan Police Service is growing and have partnered exclusively with Reed Talent Solutions to recruit a Curriculum Lead on a permanent basis.
Based primarily at Hendon, the role will be offered hybrid with 3 days on site per week. You will also be required to attend other Met sites across London when necessary.
You will ideally be an experienced and forward‑thinking curriculum specialist with a strong background in programme design, adult learning theory and developing high‑quality learning experiences that drive organisational capability and performance.
About the Role
In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and expert guidance in the design, development and continuous improvement of the Metropolitan Police Service’s learning curriculum across multiple academies. You’ll ensure all programmes are coherent, evidence‑based, inclusive and aligned with organisational priorities.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, learning partners and external education providers, you will shape a learning portfolio that supports workforce development, future skills and long‑term organisational success.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the strategic design and development of learning programmes across multiple academies
* Establish consistent curriculum standards, quality frameworks and design principles
* Ensure all learning content—digital, face‑to‑face, blended and experiential—is high‑quality, inclusive and evidence‑based
* Collaborate with senior stakeholders, BCUs, L&D teams, subject matter experts and external providers to ensure curriculum alignment with workforce needs
* Embed adult‑learning theory, instructional design methodology and assessment strategies into programme design
* Oversee the ongoing review and continuous improvement of curriculum content
* Ensure curriculum reflects national standards, best practice and regulatory requirements for police recruit learning
* Influence senior officers and stakeholders to embed change and drive adoption of curriculum improvements
* Design and support work‑based learning solutions, including degree apprenticeships
* Identify and help address barriers to learning and progression within policing environments
* Champion MPS values and ensure learning programmes uphold organisational culture
The ideal you
* Proven experience in curriculum design, learning programme development or instructional design
* Strong stakeholder‑engagement skills with experience influencing senior leaders
* Deep understanding of adult‑learning theory, assessment strategies and educational design
* Experience leading or contributing to organisational change within a learning environment
* Ability to design work‑based learning programmes for adults, ideally including apprenticeships
* Knowledge of policing education, recruit learning standards or public‑sector L&D is highly beneficial
* A values‑driven professional who is collaborative, analytical and committed to developing high‑quality learning
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
* Degree‑level qualification (Level 6) in Education, Learning & Development or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
* Experience working within policing, emergency services or other complex regulated environments
* Exposure to regional or national change programmes, ideally embedding new standards at a local level
