Environmental Advisor - Great Grid Upgrade

Location: Kiln Lane - On-site (national travel required)

Sector: Power Infrastructure

Are you passionate about driving sustainable practices in large-scale construction projects? Laing O'Rourke are seeking a proactive Environmental Advisor to support our team on a flagship project site. This role will form part of a growing environment team as part of an evolving project portfolio, which is set to run over the next decade.

We are helping to deliver a major power upgrade for the National Grid – one of the largest upgrades to the UK power network in decades – a transformative, high‑value project that will shape the nation's energy future.


Projects

* Kiln Lane – Construction of a new substation
* ATNC – 47 km of OHL enabling works and tower foundations and construction of a new substation

Key Responsibilities

* Monitor and manage environmental compliance on-site in line with legal requirements and company policies
* Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections in both office and field settings
* Engage with project managers, contractors, and regulatory bodies to mitigate environmental risks
* Provide expert advice and training to site personnel on environmental best practices
* Support the implementation of environmental management plans and sustainability initiatives
* Prepare and submit environmental reports and documentation as required


What We're Looking For

* Proven experience as an Environmental Advisor or similar role within the construction or energy sector
* Strong understanding of environmental legislation and standards relevant to large‑scale infrastructure projects
* Experience doing in‑field environmental monitoring tasks such as collecting water samples, ground investigative works, setting up noise and vibration monitoring equipment and ability to present findings
* Good understanding of ISO 14001 EMS and implementation of project CEMP requirements
* Excellent communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams
* Relevant qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or related fields
* Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the project site
