Role summary
The Environment Agency seeks a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals and will be the strategic lead for the way we manage financial investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). The role requires proactive leadership with a focus on continually improving and enhancing our work.
You will manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. You will provide strong leadership, motivate and develop your team, and manage performance and delivery. You will work collaboratively with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). You will influence at a senior level to ensure EA priorities are recognised by other enforcement agencies.
Alongside ECU duties, you will support the wider organisation in improving processes and understanding POCA legislation, sharing lessons learned, contributing to technical documentation, and providing advice to enforcement officers nationwide.
The team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team. The unit includes Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts and operates nationally with enforcement staff and partners across the country, addressing serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience/skills Required
You must have exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team. A good understanding of financial investigations and POCA is required. Additionally you must have experience in:
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
* Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its members
Contact and additional information
This is a hybrid working role; you’ll work from home and your nearest office with travel across the country for meetings and duties. Incident response is a central part of the role and may require you to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support, potentially attracting additional payment.
