Overview
We are seeking an experienced sales professional to join the regional sales team in our Academic Division as the new Area Sales Manager. The role is to develop and implement a business strategy to achieve goals for the customers within the defined geographic, sector and product portfolio. This should be achieved by maintaining and building on our business with existing customers as well as prospecting and developing new business opportunities, responding to customers and presenting proposals.
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement a business strategy for the relevant territory/sector and update this regularly to help meet annual sales targets.
* Present and promote the OUP Academic Portfolio (Journals and Online Product) to relevant customers in the territory, including practitioner law accounts as required by the Regional Sales Manager.
* Use a consultative sales approach to build and maintain strong relationships with customers within the specified territory/sector to maximise interest in the division\'s products and satisfy customer needs.
* Establish and maintain regular communication with other OUP departments to report feedback from the markets to key stakeholders in order to ensure that OUP\'s sales, marketing and product development strategies are market-oriented.
* Track and report on sales leads for the specified territory/sector using agreed systems and procedures to manage the opportunity pipeline through to completion.
* Coordinate research into new prospects and new business opportunities for OUP Academic products to identify areas for growth.
* Input into annual budget preparations for sales revenue and maintain records of overheads for the territory so that targets are agreed and adhered to.
* Build a thorough understanding of OUP Academic product types across the formats and the business models by which they are made available to customers, and develop an understanding of the external market through customer engagement and attendance at key conferences.
* Uphold the ethical standards and behaviours expected by the Press by engaging with and adhering to OUP\'s Anti-bribery and Fraud policy and guidelines.
Qualifications
* Previous experience of sales or marketing
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Highly skilled in using software packages such as Excel, with a proven aptitude to learn and work with new systems
* Ability to effectively manage a high volume, complex workload through prioritisation of tasks in line with departmental objectives
* Experience of the Academic or Publishing sector is desirable
