This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to lead complex engineering programmes and play a key role in the development of innovative, industry-leading products.The RoleAs Electrical Design Manager, you will lead the electrical engineering function, driving technical excellence, effective project delivery and continuous improvement across new and existing product platforms.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Leadership & Project DeliveryLead and develop the electrical engineering team responsible for the design of ground support equipmentManage engineering projects from concept through detailed design, validation and release to productionPlan and allocate engineering resources across multiple concurrent projectsEnsure projects are delivered on time, within scope and aligned with budgetary targetsProvide technical leadership and decision-making on complex engineering challengesSupport new product development and product enhancement initiativesConduct performance reviews, career development planning and support talent developmentFoster a culture of accountability, technical excellence and continuous improvementEnsure compliance with customer specifications and applicable standards, including EN12312, EN1915 and Machinery Directive 2006/42/ECApprove electrical designs, drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documentationOversee the Engineering Change Order (ECO) processLead structured design reviews including concept, preliminary and critical design reviewsEnsure appropriate design verification and validation testing prior to production releaseEnsure electrical designs are optimised for manufacturability, assembly and serviceability (DFMA)Collaborate with Manufacturing to resolve build issues and improve production efficiencySupport value engineering initiatives to enhance cost competitivenessWork closely with Supply Chain on component standardisation and supplier integrationPartner with Mechanical Engineering to ensure fully integrated system designsSupport Sales and Product Management with customer-specific technical requirementsWork with After-Sales and Customer Care teams to convert field feedback and warranty data into product improvementsContribute to cross-departmental initiatives aligned with operational excellenceDrive improvements in engineering processes and workflowsPromote design standardisation, modular architectures and component reuseSupport innovation in electrical design, component selection and manufacturing technologiesIdentify opportunities to enhance performance, reliability and sustainabilityDevelop, set and monitor KPIs covering delivery, quality, efficiency and costAbout YouSkills, Experience & QualificationsDegree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related disciplineSignificant experience designing electrical systems for heavy equipment, mobile machinery or vehicle platformsMinimum of 7 years' leadership experience within an engineering environmentStrong capability with 2D and 3D electrical CAD tools (EPlan, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, DraftSight or similar)Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, complex systems integration and control systemsProven experience managing projects across the full product development lifecycleStrong knowledge of regulated engineering environments and safety standardsExperience driving engineering process improvements or design standardisationHigh level of technical judgement and attention to detailCommercially aware with a strong understanding of manufacturing cost driversStructured, analytical and data-driven decision-makerProactive problem solver with strong organisational skillsInspirational leader with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teamsConfident communicator able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersWhat's in It for You?Senior leadership role within a global manufacturing organisationOpportunity to influence product strategy and engineering excellenceCompetitive salary and benefits packageLong-term career progression within a stable, growth-focused businessWhat you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.If this job isn't quite right for you, but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion about your career.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
