Occupational Therapist - Band 5 to 6 Developmental Role

Are you a Band 5 Occupational Therapist looking for the chance to grow into a Band 6 role?

This development post offers the chance to build your skills and progress your career in a supportive, friendly inpatient therapy team at St Marks Hospital, Maidenhead, with some cross-cover at Upton Hospital, Slough.

You'll join a close-knit team of OTs, physios, and therapy assistants who work together to help patients regain independence and return home safely. Our service supports adults to return home after a hospital stay, and you'll manage a caseload on an inpatient ward with a wide mix of complex needs. This role is well suited to someone ambitious, motivated, and keen to develop in an environment where learning and growth are actively supported.

Day to day, you'll be:

* Assessing patients and creating rehab plans.
* Running or supporting groups such as falls prevention and exercise.
* Working closely with patients, families, and the wider MDT.
* Supporting therapy assistants and students.
* Taking part in ward rounds, case conferences and discharge planning.

Main duties of the job

The post will be part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team within an inpatient setting which will offer assessment and treatment for patients in the east of Berkshire.

* Toprovide supervision guidance to band 3 and 4 support workers in the therapy team. To make recommendations to the wider MDT and to support with education of students.
* To identify service developments, needs, contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of the service and have responsibility for defined projects.
* To be responsible for a complex caseload using an interdisciplinary, patient focused rehabilitative approach with support from the senior therapists.

Job responsibilities

The must haves for this role:

* Degree in Occupational Therapy along with HCPC registration
* A passion for working in a rehabilitation or intermediate care setting
* Car driver & possess full drivers license to be able to drive in the UK
* Willingness to participate in a 6-day rota.

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications/Training

* Occupational Therapy Degree
* Registration with Health Professions Council
* Membership of a professional body e.g. RCOT


Continuous Professional Development

* Willingness to undertake further training and development
* Evidence of on-going professional development
* Evidence of completing a preceptorship program
* Training in the equipment needs of older people.


Previous Experience

* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment
* Experience of working in a care home
* Specialist knowledge acquired through training or working with older people with complex health needs
* Experience of working with patients with a postural deviation


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Demonstrate good organisational and prioritisation skills and ability to work under pressure
* Good interpersonal and communication skills with an empathetic manner
* Competent with IT skills
* Ability to translate best practice evidence and national policy into practice
* Knowledge of current Health / Social Care legislation, i.e. National Serviced Frameworks
* Knowledge and understanding of adult protection issues
* Knowledge of resource management


Additional Requirements

* Ability to travel to multiple sites efficiently
* Full UK driving licence
* The daily use of a car

£32,602 to £39,686 a year per annum (inc. of HCAS)
