About the School
Rotherfield Primary School is a one‑form entry primary school nested in a friendly village setting in East Sussex. Our vision is to build a community of caring, resilient learners, where inclusion, enriched learning and collaboration are at the heart of all we do. We embrace a therapeutic thinking approach to behaviour, fostering emotional well‑being alongside academic progress. Our broad and bespoke curriculum is reviewed and adapted regularly. We run a Breakfast Club from 7.30 a.m. and an After‑School Club until 6 p.m., with a wide range of activities and a strong enrichment programme for all pupils. We are proud of our commitment to ongoing staff development. We have about 12 % of children with SEND and continuously strive to improve provision for vulnerable children, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Role Overview
As our SENCo, you will be a pivotal member of the leadership team, responsible for leading and coordinating SEND provision to ensure every child with additional needs is supported to achieve their best.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspire inclusive practice and drive continuous improvement in SEND provision across the school.
* Lead the day‑to‑day operation of the SEND provision, maintain the SEN register and oversee assessment and review processes.
* Advise and support staff with evidence‑based strategies to meet the needs of children with SEND and ensure their social and emotional well‑being.
* Coordinate applications and reviews for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Build strong partnerships with families, external professionals and agencies to ensure smooth transitions and holistic support.
* Manage resources effectively, including the SEN budget and deployment of support staff.
What We Are Looking For
* Qualified teacher with experience delivering inclusive, high‑quality teaching.
* Holds, or is willing to achieve within three years, the National Professional Qualification for SENCO’s (NPQ SENCO).
* Strong commitment to raising outcomes for children with SEND and a deep understanding of best‑practice strategies and interventions.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive, productive relationships with children, families, staff and external partners.
* Organised, proactive and able to lead with empathy and emotional intelligence.
* Passion for continuous learning and professional development.

Additional Information
This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018. The school will need to ensure that it is not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self‑declaration form as part of the pre‑employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations. If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2018 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.
