Overview
Hydrometry & Telemetry Field Officer – 31723. This field-based role supports the Hydrometry & Telemetry Team in monitoring environmental data across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and parts of Norfolk. The role involves collecting, validating, and delivering high-quality rainfall, river flow and level, and groundwater data to support internal teams and external stakeholders in environmental decision-making. It is predominantly field-based with some office-based responsibilities, and requires working outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities
* Collect hydrometric data from numerous sites across the area.
* Conduct flow gauging at sites to support data validation and incident response.
* Report on asset conditions, identifying issues that may affect data quality.
* Undertake fieldwork and travel to local offices and national meetings as required.
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other team members and support them to achieve team objectives.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Ability to work independently
* Good communication skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
* Comfortable working near and in water
* A full UK driving licence
Helpful (not essential):
* Experience in collecting and managing data
* Experience with environmental monitoring instrumentation, particularly in river and tidal settings
* An awareness of field-based health and safety
Other information
Travel to remote sites using a badged fleet vehicle is required. Travel to Brampton and Ely offices is expected from time to time. This role does not qualify for skilled worker sponsorship.
