Overview
CNC Project Engineer - Aerospace, Bedfordshire. Our Aerospace client based in Bedfordshire UK requires a CNC Project Engineer on a contract basis. This role is inside IR35 and paid PAYE through Strongfield Consultants.
They require an experienced CNC Engineer to join their Industrialisation team on a contract basis to support the commissioning of a new 5 axis milling machine, including development and validation of machining programmes for composite components, configuration of an on-machine verification system and generation of process control and training documentation in line with QMS and APQP requirements for up production handover. Working with the site manufacturing engineering team, the post holder will create and execute the project plan to bring the system online and capable of producing the complete product line with 100% compliance to Safety, Quality and rate manufacturing requirements whilst imparting knowledge into the team to enable ongoing manufacturing support.
An initial contract of 6-8 months is envisaged to complete the primary task, with the opportunity to extend the contract to execute further projects related to CMM capital investment projects later.
You will have a track record of delivering high quality technical work, and be comfortable within a project environment. You will have good written and oral communication skills, and be confident working with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including non-technical colleagues.
Responsibilities
* Support machine commissioning activities including HSE assessments for PUWER and implementation of SSOW where required.
* Evaluate current CAD models for components, tools and fixtures and ensure suitability for CAM processing.
* Evaluate current machining approach, identify opportunities for improvement and develop CAM routines for implementation to achieve product and process requirements.
* Implement, test and validate processes for each product type including offline measurement and support for First Article approval.
* Commission, configure and implement on machine verification measurement system and generate data to enable process approval including required reports.
* Generate process documentation including control plans for critical process variables, data collection and training materials SOPs for operations including normal use, cleaning, changeover and routine maintenance tasks.
* Optimise the process to enable efficient flow of materials, this may include cell layout and identification of materials handling systems.
* Create and report against project plan for delivery of the project, identifying and escalating risks as needed to ensure successful implementation and handover to the operations team.
* Coach and impart specialist knowledge to the site manufacturing engineering team in the correct management of CNC machining processes and equipment.
* Ensure EHS policy and process adherence for activities, and contribute to a proactive EHS culture in the wider team.
Qualifications
Essential
* Broad interest in Aerospace engineering with an understanding of equipment Health and Safety requirements related to CNC / CMM processes and an appreciation for aerospace manufacturing regulatory system requirements.
* Hands-on role with proactive stakeholder engagement; able to provide project and technical updates and write technical documentation.
* Ability to work with CAD models and drawings, preferably CATIA V5 or later, for use in CAM software.
* Experience with PowerMill and Vericut.
* Experience with Siemens Sinumerik CNC controllers and interfaces.
* Experience with CMM measurement systems and on-machine verification systems.
* Experience of Configuration Control & Change Management and use of PLM systems.
* Strong self-starter with ability to execute tasks according to plan; logical, methodical planning and evidence-based decision making.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Clear written and oral communication; ability to create concise technical content.
* Working knowledge of MS Office suite.
Desirable
* Awareness of Aerospace certification requirements.
* Previous experience in Aerospace sector.
* Awareness of interfaces with Maintenance & Facilities, Operations, Production, and Supplier Management.
* Candidates must hold the rights to live and work in the United Kingdom and be currently living in the UK. Prepared to undergo BPSS Level Security Clearance vetting.
