Join us at Stockport Council MJ Local Authority of the Year 2025. Two permanent Youth Justice Social Worker roles are available within Stockport Youth Justice & Complex Safeguarding Service.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload with specialist responsibility for children who are remanded in custody and involved in looked after children procedures.
* Undertake assessments and manage complex cases; plan targeted interventions to reduce offending/re-offending.
* Write high-quality reports including preparing sentencing proposals and present information to the Courts when required.
* Work as part of a multi-agency service with the police, probation and health colleagues to prevent and reduce offending by children and young people, in line with the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and other relevant legislation.
* Engage with parents/carers and victims of crime; uphold the Youth Justice Board 7 child-first principle; promote desistance and engagement; minimise criminogenic stigma.
About You / Qualifications
* Experience of undertaking assessments and managing complex cases; ability to plan evidence-based interventions to reduce offending and support desistance.
* Child-centred, constructive and future-focused practice; empowering relationships that enable children to fulfil their potential.
* Practice Educator trained, or willing to undertake training to supervise Social Work students; training opportunities available across GM Youth Justice Services.
